Rules of Lexulous
-
Object of the Game
Players must use letter tiles to make words with on the board. The player with the highest score once all 89 tiles are exhausted, wins the game! All words are permitted with the exception of the following: words that are always capitalised, prefixes and suffixes alone, abbreviations, and words requiring an apostrophe / hyphen.
Game Play
-
The player who goes first is randomly chosen. They must use at least 2 or more tiles from their rack to form a word on the board. Any one tile must fall on the centre square. Diagonal words are not allowed.
-
Once you've played a word, your rack will be replenished with new tiles, up to a maximum of 8 tiles, and turn passes to your opponent. Remember, the entire pool consists of 89 tiles.
-
Players may form new words on the board in the following ways:
- Placing a complete word parallel to a word already played so that adjacent letters also form complete words.
- Adding one or more letters to a word or letters already on the board.
- Placing a word at right angles to a word already on the board. The new word must use one of the letters already on the board or must add a letter to it.
- Blanks: The two blank tiles may be used as any letters. When playing a blank, you must choose which letter it represents. It remains that letter for the rest of the game.
- You may use a turn to exchange all, some, or none of the letters. To do this, click on the SWAP button. This ends your turn.
Game End
- The game ends when all letters have been drawn and one player uses his or her last letter.
- When no tiles are left to be drawn and all players pass their turn consecutively.
- When tiles are left to be drawn and all players pass three times consecutively.
Scoring
-
Lexulous keeps score automatically. The score value of each letter is indicated by a number at the bottom of the tile. The score value of a blank is zero. Before you submit a word, you can see the total score for it.
-
The score for each turn is the sum of the letter values in each word formed or modified on that turn, in addition to points obtained from placing letters on Special squares (as described below).
-
Special letter squares: A light blue square doubles the score of a letter placed on it; a dark blue square triples the letter score.
-
Special word squares: The score for an entire word is doubled when one of its letters is placed on a pink square, and tripled, when one of its letters is placed on a red square. Include premiums for double or triple letter values, if any, before doubling or tripling the word score. If a word is formed that covers two premium word squares, the score is doubled and then re-doubled, or tripled and then re-tripled. The centre square doubles the score for the first word.
-
Letter and word premiums count only on the turn in which they are played.
-
When a blank tile is played on a pink or red square, the value of the word is doubled or tripled, even though the blank itself has no score value.
-
When two or more words are formed in the same play, each is scored. The common letter is counted (with full premium value, if any) for each word.
-
BINGO! If you play seven tiles on a turn, it's a Bingo. You score a premium of 40 points over and above the normal word score total. If you use all your 8 tiles, you get a 50 point bonus!
-
Unplayed Letters: When the game ends, each player's score is reduced by the sum of their unplayed letters. In addition, if a player has used all of their letters, the sum of the other players' unplayed letters is added to that player's score.
-
The player with the highest final score wins the game. In case of a tie, the player with the highest score before adding or deducting unplayed letters wins.

@lexulous What about when one player just stops playing? Does the game just sit there forever? Or is it ended eventually? In the latter case, who wins? The one with the higher score or the one who last played? (My current situation is that I am being harassed by an op. I prefer not to deal with him and suggested he delete the game. He refused, after he made the fourth move of the game. So he refuses to delete, and if I delete, I lose. That shouldn't be.)

@chrisrn75495 Games are force-forfeited after 14 days of not playing a turn and the person gave the last move is credited as the winner of that game.

@betterlate1 never safe to give a password.
