Three suggestions (inspired by the thread called "Sitters"):

    1. If a player doesn't make a move within, say 3 minutes, then they lose the game. This makes it more difficult for cheaters to google stuff or whatever they do. I play Bullet chess where you have to make ALL your moves in under 3 minutes or you lose.

    2. The penalty for exceeding the time limit results in the loss of the game and, consequently, rating points as well.

    3. If it's an email game then the penalty not finishing a game could be a temporary ban (as often happens on chess sites).

For reference, here's how they resolve the issue on a popular online chess playing website:

"What is done about players leaving games without resigning?
If your opponent frequently aborts/leaves games, they get "play banned", which means they're temporarily banned from playing games. This is not publically indicated on their profile. If this behaviour continues, the length of the playban increases - and prolonged behaviour of this nature may lead to account closure."

@mistertoad Thank you!. That's an amazing idea. We will share this with our development team for consideration.

@sakamvari never ceases to amaze me or ruin the fun of the game how many leave. They never have problems when winning but they quit in droves if losing. Very frustrating. Penalties for taking to long are also a great idea but quitters are the worst. Then, they come back wanting to play again sometimes immediately after they quit

How about doing away with the 'Time' and 'Increments' options altogether and replacing them with a 'Time per Move' option? Or perhaps adding that as an additional option.

@dan No offense just my view, but different people work at different speeds. Can adjust speed per turn when you have a time limit in your head but not if done away with
