The same week also brings us National Robotics Week, National Zoo Lover's Day, and National Pet Day. It is, without a doubt, April's most wonderful week — and we are here for every bit of it!

Easter falls on Sunday, April 5 this year — a sacred time in the Christian faith, marking the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and a moment for reflection, renewal, and hope.

It also brings simple joys—spent with loved ones, cherished traditions, and the beauty of spring in bloom. Wishing you a peaceful, joyful, and uplifting Easter filled with warmth and new beginnings.

Weekly Word Wonder: GAMBOL

Speaking of spring — have you ever watched a lamb on a meadow, or a puppy discovering a garden for the very first time? That glorious, carefree leaping and frolicking has a beautiful word all its own:

Definition: To run or jump about playfully; to frolic with joyful abandon
Origin: From Old French gambader (to skip, to jump), related to gamba (leg) — the same root family that gives us "gambit"
Usage:
1. "The lambs gambolled across the sunlit meadow, indifferent to everything except the pure joy of being alive."
2. "Our golden retriever gambolled through the park, tail wagging furiously, as if the whole world had been made just for her."

Special Days This Week

National Robotics Week (April 5–13): The Future Belongs to Curious Minds

This week marks National Robotics Week — an annual celebration of innovation, STEM education, and the incredible ingenuity of young minds. Thousands of students across the country compete in robotics challenges each year, demonstrating that the builders of tomorrow are already hard at work today.

Here is a word history nugget for you: the word ROBOT entered the English language from Czech. Playwright Karel Čapek coined it in his 1920 play R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots), from the Czech word robota meaning "drudgery" or "forced labor." The word was so vivid and so necessary that it spread across virtually every language on Earth within just a few decades. From a Czech stage play to your smartphone assistant — quite a journey for one little word!

National Zoo Lover's Day (April 8):

A wonderful moment to appreciate zoos not just as places of family fun and wonder, but as serious champions of wildlife conservation. Modern zoos fund breeding programmes for endangered species, conduct vital field research, and educate millions of visitors each year about the natural world.

A couple of remarkable conservation success stories worth celebrating: the Arabian Oryx, once declared extinct in the wild, now numbers over 1,000 individuals in its natural habitat — largely thanks to zoo-led breeding and reintroduction programmes.
The California Condor bounced back from just 27 birds in 1987 to over 500 today. These are stories of patience, dedication, and the powerful belief that no species is beyond saving.

National Pet Day (April 11): Our Furry, Feathered & Scaly Companions

And speaking of beloved creatures — National Pet Day is April 11! Founded in 2006 by animal welfare advocate Colleen Paige, it is a day dedicated to celebrating the extraordinary joy, comfort, and unconditional love that pets bring into our lives.

Research consistently shows that pet owners experience reduced stress, lower blood pressure, and greater emotional wellbeing. Whether you share your home with a dog, a cat, a parrot, a rabbit, or even a very charming goldfish — your companion is genuinely good for you.

National Pet Day also shines a spotlight on the millions of animals in shelters waiting for a forever home. If you have been thinking about adopting, let this week be your sign!
