Latvian, also known as Lettish, is the official language of Latvia as well as one of the official languages of the European Union. It is an Eastern Baltic language belonging to the Balto-Slavic branch of the Indo-European language family, spoken in the Baltic region.

Latvian is particularly interesting because it emerged during several centuries by language spoken by the ancient Latgalian tribe. Surprisingly, the Latvian language was actually heavily influenced by the German language in the 19th century, due to a population of Baltic Germans living in Latvia.

There are plenty of traditional Latvian dishes made from mushrooms, but the most delicious must be fried boletus with salt, rye bread, and herb-flavored butter. Apart from that, you can try Kvass, Beetroot soup, Speck, Smoked fish, Potato pancakes, and Bread soup as dessert.
