Luxembourgish is a West Germanic language that is spoken mainly in Luxembourg. About 600,000 people speak Luxembourgish worldwide. As a standard form of the Moselle Franconian language, Luxembourgish has similarities with other varieties of High German and the wider group of West Germanic languages.

Luxembourg’s national dish of Judd mat Gaardebounen is a smoked pork collar soaked in water overnight and boiled with vegetables and spices. It is often served with a side dish of potatoes and broad beans, and a bottle of the beer from Luxembourg, the Diekirch. One of the famous wines is Crémant de Luxembourg, a high-quality sparkling wine, that won 22 gold medals in the Crémant Awards in 2015.

Watched by around 40,000 spectators, dancers wearing white shirts and dark trousers or skirts and holding handkerchiefs perform a synchronized hopping procession around the city, accompanied by a catchy polka marching band.
