Timing is everything. Sometimes it is wiser to delay hitting 51 by one turn if it forces others to collect heavy penalties. For example, if you sit at 48 points and notice your opponents holding large face cards, draw a low‑value card to stall. They may bust above 51 or get stuck with big leftovers when the draw pile runs out.
