Kedarkantha – The Crown of Uttarakhand
Nestled in the heart of Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, Kedarkantha is one of the most breathtaking winter treks in India. Standing tall at an altitude of 12,500 feet, this majestic peak offers panoramic views of the snow-covered Himalayan ranges including Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and Black Peak. The trek begins from the quaint village of Sankri, a scenic hamlet surrounded by dense pine forests and apple orchards.
Kedarkantha is often referred to as the “Queen of Winter Treks” due to its mesmerizing snowfall, crystal-clear skies, and starry nights at Juda Ka Talab and Kedarkantha base camp. The journey takes trekkers through enchanting oak forests, frozen lakes, and meadows blanketed in white, making it an unforgettable adventure for both beginners and seasoned trekkers.
According to local legends, this peak is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and it is believed that he once meditated here. Beyond its spiritual significance, Kedarkantha.
