Liver cancer develops when cancer cells grow rapidly in the liver, or when cancer cells begin elsewhere and spread to the liver. Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common form of liver cancer, in which small clusters of cancer, rather than a single tumour, grow in the liver. Your liver surgeon may recommend liver cancer surgery to remove the tumour or portions of the liver, depending on the severity.
