Ivermectin works by selectively blocking nerve impulses in certain parasites. When taken orally, the drug is absorbed into the bloodstream and binds to protein molecules in parasites. This prevents the parasites from sending signals to their muscles, leading to paralysis and death. In humans, Ivermectin has been used to treat parasitic infections such as onchocerciasis (river blindness), strongyloidiasis, and scabies.
