After a widespread public protest, both from visitors and residents, this whole road from Porto to Pocinho was spared closure in the spring of 2019. It is already difficult to go about in Portugal's interior, notably in the northern Tras-os-Montes area. Pocinho, a town of just over 1,000 people, is the end of the line for public transportation. A drive across the countryside reveals that the nation is suffering from a shoddy development strategy. Individuals may construct structures almost everywhere, and they do so. The construction of around 80,000 residences each year, or one every five minutes, occurred between 1986 and 2007. Because of this overdevelopment, regions of unbroken nature are all the more beautiful.
