The Duke of Beaufort introduced this game to his friends in his country estate in Gloucestershire in 1873 and started the game, so this is considered to be the beginning of modern badminton. This place is called "Badminton House". That is why this game got its name Badminton.
By 1875 , the first badminton club was started in Folkestone, England. J. H. E. Hart standardized the rules of badminton and by 1893 , the first set of rules resembling modern badminton were published by the Badminton Association of England.
Badminton has its roots in similar games called “battledore and shuttlecock” which can be traced back to ancient Greece and Egypt over 2000 years ago . Badminton is one of those racket sports which requires players to hit a shuttlecock across a net with a racket inside a badminton court. Generally , it comes in two forms.
