How's ranking work?!

I entered tonight ranked 1897. Lost two games to an 1850-ish player, now at 1698. How's this thing work?!

@lolamoth you did not censor me i guess good thing cause no idea what you were talking about but..you play up, win- you go way up, you play down- you lose a lot.. play on same plane usually lose few points play more than once guess you double it..but that does not seem right so maybe should ask admin@lexulous.com

@betterlate1 I've been here 10 yrs, so I realize how rankings work in general. But when one has played a lot of games, it takes more to move the needle.

@betterlate1 my mistake, better. I was very surprised to one day see the censor mark next to your name, I couldn't recall anything unpleasant. But it's not there now, I have no explanation or excuse. Forgive?

@lolamoth That's how it used to be on the old site a few years ago when you made a NEW account. Ratings would swing dramatically for the first few games before leveling off. I think they stopped that as it was unrealistic (not how scrabble ratings work) and could be abused. Looks like it's returned now, even for established players. This shouldn't be happening, especially for players who have an established, well-earned rating. IMO, admins need to transfer our exact rating and the same scoring system. You should only have lost six or so points per loss.

@lolamoth I have been here longer than 10 yrs much longer, no idea how much longer though..but what censor mark? And of course you are forgiven. If there was a problem, I do not carry grudges..even with those who deserve for me to carry one
