People thinking you're cheating
-
Does anyone else get this? It happens to me mostly on live games to the point I've even stopped using it mostly. I make up potential words in my rack that aren't in my vocabulary and then dictionary search them, so some people see these words and assume I'm cheating. I had this one girl message me "raiting? Really?" And blocked me... I think making 'ing' words and checking them in the dictionary must be one of the most simplest ways of formulating a bingo. It's quite annoying when I go to the new games list to accept a players challenge and it says they've blocked me!
I know I shouldn't be bothered but the truth is I'm a sensitive old soul and it actually bothers me to the point I hardly do live games now! Not sure why those people in particular tend to be *******

@l-j False accusers are more annoying than actual cheaters IMO. Thankfully they're both in the minority so don't give up on live games. You can just be polite at the beginning and end, and in between you can switch away from the chat box to the dictionary or tools tab. You can also disable in-game chat entirely from settings. Probably best to simply censor those types though. Don't waste energy on it. It says more about them. As long as your conscience is clean, that's all that matters.

@dan I did disable the live chat at one point but I found out they can still actually send messages but you just can't read them! I hated the idea of people thinking I was being impolite and turned it back on! but it's comforting to know I'm not the only one that gets annoyed by this so thanks for your reply. I guess I just need to learn not to take it to heart!

BTW, for those who strongly suspect someone of cheating, it's always best to quietly censor that person (if you must) rather than throwing out potentially false accusations.

@l-j I do the same - I try potential words using the dictionary feature and sometimes they are valid.
Recently I did this and discovered the word HOWF. Of course my game partner said WTF is HOWF!?
Is it cheating to use the dictionary? I didn't think it was.
But I guess I didn't know the word HOWF organically, so possibly some players consider it cheating. Who knows.

@beehelpme lol, I actually used to do that all the time. Even with words that you would never believe in a million years were actual words. I even discovered the word 'woorara' ! Thankfully I was playing an actual game with my mum so she knew I wasn't cheating! Haha.
Over time I've learn some really weird ones from other people or researching weird word lists online in my spare time (I have developed a rather strange interest in obscure words). The strangest is a 5 letter all-consonants word: 'crwth' ! (Of course, do not ask me what it means because I usually forget the definition!)
Because I'm aware that coming up with these words organically is possible, I tend to always give people the benefit of the doubt and just accept that it is certainly possible that they may have come up with the word without any cheating sites. The only time I ever decide they're cheating is when literally every word is a bingo or a 'perfect play' and they're using multiple letters on the board in weird places. They literally have to do this for a very long time and eventually I decide that either they're cheating or theyre just levels above me and if I'm not learning and just constantly questioning whether their playing is legit, I stop playing them.
This one guy even accused me of cheating and the next day accepted a game (I forgot it was him who i played) and then just did an entire game of ridiculous cheating... Even then I was giving him the benefit of the doubt until at the end I realised who it was and that he was trying to teach me a lesson in cheating when I'd never even cheated! he then blocked me... Absolutely ridiculous behaviour. I let my worse side get the better of me and logged in with a different gmail just to message him and tell him he was wrong the whole time and should take a good look at himself!
But yeah, feels good to know other people have to put up with this sort of nonsense as well.
Oh and regarding the dictionary, in professional scrabble you aren't allowed to use a dictionary, you have to play your word and if your challenger contests it and you're wrong you lose the go. I think that's right. But in non professional games of Lexulous I'm pretty sure it's allowed else why would they put a dictionary on the app I think we can live with a clear conscience!

@beehelpme You do not need to know definitions to use the words you have seen used and then use yourself. You can be sure if someone questions or accuses your word howf, they are now using it themselves.
