        OK, but the feelings we have about people quitting a game ("because they can") are exactly the same.

        Some of the logic is similar too. For example, it's not about simply finding the best move, one has to take into account the consequences. In chess your 'brilliant' move may well be a prelude to a nasty trap that your opponent has thought about well in advance. Similarly, in Scrabble, by making a tempting high-scoring move you may be giving your opponent an opportunity to use a triple score.

        But I promise to try not to overdo the analogies with chess, OK?!

          @mistertoad there is the option to resign; you must have seen it. But many people fail to use it.

              @thatguythere202 I only play via email - I haven't seen a resign button.

                  Thanks sakamvari. Referencing betterlate's comment, I would ask if players still lose points when they leave without being polite enough to resign in a sporting manner.

                      @mistertoad I'm sorry, I didn't realize you play by email. I only played at the v2 website until recently. Just a couple of weeks ago I added the app on my google device, in order to play a certain friend who prefers that way. I find that there is a Resign option, accessible via the Menu (three horizontal lines at the bottom of the screen while the game table is visible). Does this match with anything you see while playing?

                        It does. I was remiss and have had to confess my sins below! 🙏

                          @mistertoad No, as of now points are only adjusted on resigning.

                            So if a player is clearly losing the game, and they do not wish to suffer a drop in their rating, all they need to do is leave the game without resigning? This would seem to reward bad behaviour!

                              @mistertoad No, they still lose the game and the points if they quit (by leaving or going offline etc). This just happened to me now in fact. My opponent was losing heavily and got abusive. Soon after it told me they'd gone offline and I got the win. I assume they just closed the tab mid-game out of frustration.

                                  @sakamvari I see you discussing resigning as if quit and resign are 2 different things To real fans of this game it is one and same except if someone resigns points are immediate. But, when people quit or resign at start is no matter they make opponent sit there and wait . It is inconsiderate and it is done because they assume they will lose, so easier to bail when no penalty, just not fair to punish the person staying because someone wants to leave. If there was a penalty my guess is they would stay
