Ukrainian, historically also Ruthenian, is an East Slavic language. It is the native language of the Ukrainians and the official state language of Ukraine. Written Ukrainian uses a variant of the Cyrillic script.

The Ukrainian language is very rich in synonyms. According to the “Dictionary of Synonyms of the Ukrainian Language”, the verb “to beat” has 45 synonyms.
Unlike many cultures around the world, Ukrainians wear wedding rings on the right-hand, not the left.

Vyshyvanka is the Ukrainian national costume. It is decorated with ornamental hand-woven embroidery featuring floral detail. Both women and men wear the costume on various occasions.

The traditional Ukrainian diet includes chicken, pork, beef, eggs, fish, and mushrooms. Ukrainians also tend to eat a lot of potatoes, grains, and fresh and pickled vegetables. The popular traditional Ukrainian dishes are Varenyky (boiled dumplings with mushrooms, potatoes, sauerkraut, cottage cheese, or cherries), Holubtsi (stuffed cabbage rolls filled with rice, carrots, and meat), Deruny (potato pancakes), Salo, Okroshka (soup), Banush, Holodets, homemade sausages, Nalisniki. The most famous Ukrainian dish is Borscht (soup made from beetroot, cabbage, potato, and containing meat).

Famous Ukrainian drinks are Lviv beer, Horilka (vodka) with pepper, Medovukha – Horilka with honey, Zakarpattya wine, and Lviv coffee. In Ukraine, you can have Syrnyk (cheesecake), Makivnyk (poppy cake), or Medivnyk (honeycake)for dessert.

Many different festivals and fairs in Ukraine represent the soul of the country’s modern culture such as Dubno-fest and Leopolis Jazz Fest in Lviv, Atlas Weekend festival, one of Europe’s biggest festivals of contemporary modern popular music.

Meanwhile traditional and ethnic festivals provide insight into conventional Ukrainian celebrations such as the Malanka festival in Bukovina, the Land Of Dreams Festival in Lviv, the medieval festival of Tustan, the Festival of the Brynza in Rahiv, and Sorochinsky Fair.

Ukraine tourism includes diverse landscapes, historical landmarks, and natures’ beauty as well. One of the most charming and well-preserved Ukrainian destinations for visitors is L'viv a.k.a. "the Paris of Ukraine", which has excellent restaurants, cafés, and the bell tower to experience a bird's-eye view of the town’s breath-taking landscape.
