    • RE: Remove the Observation Eye feature to stop annoying trolls

@lefttoeshuffle What a stupid idea. How about you have some self control and not look at the eyeball if it bothers you so much? Some of us ARE interested in observers.

@lefttoeshuffle Wow, I didn't know admin did that. What did you say in the lobby? And having seen some of your drivel about things like covid vaccination, all I have to say is: Well done Admin!

    • RE: Suggestion: make censoring players invisible to censored players.

I remember one time this person said she was censoring me because I "stacked words on top of other words." Not really sure what she meant but my point is that people censor for crazy reasons!

Oh yeah. there was another person who censored everybody who beat her.

I kind of agree with you about making censoring people invisible. This site used to at least show whether you had censored someone. Back then I would censor people who censored me (for no apparent reason) so I could see the censor mark and not waste my time clicking on their games!

@roymccoy Hi Roy, there already is a shortcut to remove tiles placed on the board: hit escape.

As for suggestion two, I rarely want to look up words that way, so I don't care.
You might want to try https://www.onelook.com/ it's a lot more 'complete' than Lexulous's dictionary.

    • RE: Why the Black Arrow Is Ugly

      @roymccoy What an odd complaint!

To be honest with you, lexulous looks pretty good to my eye-- way better than another word game site I'm on.

Except for the avatars. I find a lot of them to be pretty awful.

    • RE: Recommend addition/removal of words

@ruth-goodman I'm pretty sure that the Lexulous admins do not modify the accepted word lists. There is a committee somewhere that does that... And there are indeed many missing/erroneous words!

    • Sound of friends arriving/departing

I know this is minor, but it would be nice if we could turn off just the sound played when friends are arriving/departing. Some people come and go repeatedly and rapidly and I find the noise a bit annoying! (I guess if you wanted to get fancy, you could just play the sound once for each friend's arrival. I don't think many people need the sound for departure anyway?)

And before somebody suggests it, I don't want to turn off all Lex sounds!

      Thanks.

    • RE: Transient arrow

@roymccoy Oh come on, we could use a little more unintended humor, Roy!
Surely you were going to suggest something like how the URL is not symmetrical and thus aesthetically displeasing?

LOL & No hard feelings 🙂

BTW Actually I do agree with you that the arrow shouldn't disappear. I hadn't noticed it until you brought it up, but I imagine it's a problem for slow players.

    • Different sounds for friends and messages

Hi, I think it would be great if you used different sounds for friends arriving and messages received. I think people sometimes miss messages because it's the same.

This may be a bad idea, but how about the sound of an opening envelope for a new message?

Also, thanks for fixing that other thing I mentioned so quickly!

    • Bug: persistent observers

This is rather a minor bug, but I have noticed that sometimes it would appear that the same person is observing my games repeatedly and for many minutes. (And subsequent games too.) I finally realized that it was a bug and not some stalker when an observer either was playing their own game or had logged off but was still listed as observing in my next game(s).

Anyway, I'm sure this bug feeds some people's paranoia and would be better fixed!

      Thanks,

      Z

    • Notification of opponent's departure after a game

This is minor, but why don't you tell us when an opponent has disconnected or even just left the game? It's kind of annoying to type something after a game only to discover the person has already left.

    • RE: How did a tie game get awarded to one of the players?

@dan-mitchell Personally I don't really care that much, but I think that the people in the serious end of the chess and scrabble worlds look at it this way: a stronger player is expected to win, so if there is a tie game between widely different rated people, the lower rater gets points, etc.

    • RE: Different Point Value for Tiles

No offense, Bob, but that sounds like a boring game! An alternative is "Duplicate Scrabble" in which both players get the same tiles so luck is not an issue.

    • RE: Robot player vs real person

@jrp32 I prefer to play real people who chat the most, but second to them I like to play real, silent people because the robots on lex are either too hard or too easy and at least in the past were almost non-strategic.

It surprises me how few people on here are interested in words.

    • Player who goes first should be random!

I'm sure somebody else has already asked for this, but WOW:
the player who goes first should be random! Obviously the person who goes first has an advantage because they hit a double word score. As it is the person who joins your game or rematches you goes first; this is unfair.

      Thank you.

Come on people, let's keep asking for this until they fix it!

    • RE: New bug

@gardenern No, this was clearly a bug. The word played by the 2nd opp was directly on top of the 1st word. (You know, the star in the middle...)

    • RE: Please let us choose....

@vickibma Can't you just ignore the play rater thing and play as usual? BTW I seriously doubt that many other players want to have to agree to such a weird, minor setting before a game... And people on this site have always fished for words before playing-- they just looked at how many points a possible play would be.

    • Move two word list

This is a minor issue, but I would appreciate it if you moved the two word list. How about moving it from the dictionary tab
      to the tools tab?

At the moment, I often can't see multiple word definitions because the two word list is now taking up lots of space. Here's a screenshot:

      lexsnap.jpg

There should have been another definition below zeta.

      Thanks.

    • RE: Move two word list

@dan-mitchell said in Move two word list:

@zaph Good point. There's a huge chunk of unused space underneath that tools tab graph to move it to.

The definitions themselves are all over the place though. It doesn't always prioritize the most common or logical definitions. If it's a word with multiple meanings, it will often bring up the most obscure definition available and ignore everything else.

Yes, I agree that the definitions are often lacking, but once in a while I find one very interesting!

(I finally remembered a recent one: "gul: a geometric, usually octagonal, design used in Turkoman carpets")
