  • WAKANDA is not in a standard U.S. English dictionary
    A anexparrot

First of all I agree with Tiger-- the word list is made by some committee somewhere that has NO affiliation with Lex.

Secondly before complaining you guys might want to look in more dictionaries!

    https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/wakanda

Noun: a supernatural force similar to mana believed by the Sioux to pervade animate and inanimate objects in varying degrees sometimes giving them extraordinary powers and usually assumed to be the cause of extraordinary happenings

  • "Eye Dialect" used in word def.
    A anexparrot

@jrp32 Interesting! Wikipedia says "it is dialect to the eye, rather than to the ear."

  • Black Cross?

    @betterlate1-0 said in Black Cross?:

@roymccoy I am annoying and you just proved why. You do not like the truth or facts. You find it fine that are rude and crude and apparently bully others to get your way. I point it out you censor me. Have a good day

Better, I don't really know Roy, but he doesn't seem like a bully to me.

And you'll probably take this the wrong way, but you would be doing yourself a favor if you thought about and edited your sentences before posting. Like "You find it fine that are rude and crude" -- what was that supposed to mean?

As for the plus sign in the middle of the board, do you people sit and stare at it? Star or plus sign? No big deal to me!

Anybody else want them to get new avatars?
    I made a poll:

@anexparrot 'evite' is a go, but not 'evote'. UK dictionary. On checking tho, I see the former does not mean an invitation rec'd by email. 🙂

Yes, I've seen evite. Eviting is good in both UK and US as is evited!

  • Medium Paced Arguments

What about the people who like glacially slow conversations? One sentence every 11 months?

  • Poll: New avatars?
    A anexparrot

@mapmakere LOL, it's a reference to 'a non-existent species of parrot, called a "Norwegian Blue".' Or rather an ex-non-existent one. Youtube

  • Weird problem
    A anexparrot

Is it bad form to reply to myself? LOL

I was thinking about this, and it turns out that the reason my relative couldn't see my game posted was because of my formula. I didn't realize it works that way now.

  • Sitters
    A anexparrot

My last opponent sat (stopped playing and made me wait) because I guessed the word 'guttier'.

How about requiring people to at least move tiles around within 4 minutes before forcing a resign?

Or if you want to be more 'nice' you could pop up a box to the opponent asking if they want to end the game or allow more time, in case they are playing a friend who has a good reason for being AFK!

@vivviv lot of words are words, but up to you to discriminate and use or not.

I'm going to try and translate for better: there are a lot of potentially offensive words that are valid, it's up to the player to decide whether you're okay with playing them!

(I don't know about you guys but I never play the N word or the C word.)

@lexulous Please add the word Gaelic. This is the language that is spoken in Scotland, and just as Welsh or French or many other languages are allowable words, I do not understand why Gaelic is not included.

I believe that your examples are of languages that are also verbs in English. Like for instance "japan" is allowed because it means "to give a high gloss to" but "Japanese" is not allowed because it is a proper noun.

This looks like the bug where two games get started at the same time for you. You would think it would be easy for them to fix..

... It has the tilde in mañana but NOT the one in señor ie it accepts senor but not mañana! Go figure.

I figure MW screwed up (on SENOR, not MAÑANA).

I'm no linguist, but I would bet English has borrowed many words from other languages and left the accent marks behind.
    Déjà vu?

  • reading the lobby chat is interesting
    A anexparrot

    @betterlate1-0

Better, I don't know you, but if that was happening to me, I'd get a new username, abandon my old one and try to change my behavior a bit so people would leave me alone / not recognize my new ID.

Also, the censor button is your friend.

  • Better notifications system
    A anexparrot

This is a good idea. I usually reload the games page to see if it's my turn, but it would be much nicer if we didn't have to log back in so often and this notification idea was implemented.

  • Here we go again?
    A anexparrot

Better, are you saying the site has been hacked?

Also, I don't understand why you post publicly and then jump on Map when s/he doesn't understand you. Your first post certainly was cryptic!

  • Censorship
    A anexparrot

    @sparks I don't like censorship either.

Also, I'm not sure if lex still does this, but in the past they would just drop whole lines that had 'offending' words. The problem was that they didn't notify either the sender or the reader that something had been removed. Which can be confusing!

  • Why does session timeout so quickly?
    A anexparrot

This is a minor thing, but I don't understand why a logged-in session times out so quickly? Just now I was playing on the main website, and clicked to open 'my stats' in a new window, and had to log-in again, even though I was still active in the main lex window!

  • Delete some i's!
    A anexparrot

@dan said in Delete some i's!:

Lexulous already has 1 less of each vowel compared to Scrabble. I don't think it would be too smart to deviate even further from Alfred Butts' original idea. I think the problem is the randomizer algorithm on this newer version. It does like to dump a bunch of the same vowels in your rack in a way that rarely happens in face to face games. The algorithm on the old version didn't seem to have these issues. Perhaps the devs could look into improving it.

    Scrabble:
    E ×12, A ×9, I ×9, O ×8, U ×4

    Lexulous:
    E ×11, A ×8, I ×8, O ×7, U ×3

Interesting. I wouldn't have guessed the difference from Scrabble! However, Mr. Butts created his tile pool so long ago, I wonder if the letter frequency of normal English has changed since then?

I agree that the game seems to have too many I's and U's!
