  • 2021 New Format
    lexulousL lexulous

    Namaste!

We understand that any change is confusing at first. However, we did not really have a choice in creating a new format. The old format has to be phased out due to technology being out-dated. After all it was created in 2007/2008.

The process over a year back and players are using the new format comfortably since quite a few months now. So please share your concerns and we will look into them.

The new format has many additional features that make game play interesting and save time for players. For example:

    • Click on the game number to the right of the board to open the menu and change Colours, Numbered Board, Magic Tiles & other settings.
    • To the left of the tile rack there is a Shuffle icon, click once to shuffle. click again to arrange in A-Z order.
    • To the right of the rack you have SWAP and PASS icons.
    • The moment you place tiles on the board the play button changes to red or green depending on word validity.
    • After you place tiles, to the left of your tile rack you will get the Undo icon
    • There is a T icon towards the top right of the chat box, simply click on it to cycle through the different font sizes for the chat area.
    • Two letter word lists are more accessible to the right of the board (Dictionary tab)
    • Unseen tiles now shows percentage of vowels & consonants so you can play your turn better.
    • Last word shows at top left and clicking on it will open the move list making it more accessible during the game.
    • Head To Head stats are shifted to under the Tools section to the right of the board.
    • Clicking on a player will bring up the stats box for the player
    • You can click on the board for an arrow to show up and simply type out the words instead of dragging & dropping each letter.

Rated Games, and Time increments after each turn
. Click on Set Table. Now your game is available to other players for joining.

  • Welcome To The Lexulous Forum
    lexulousL lexulous

    Hello Friends!

All of us across the world are in an unprecedented situation today.

Many have written informing how important Lexulous is for your family. For some it's a way to communicate. Some use it to maintain mental health & discipline, while others use it as a learning tool.

We are happy that our team's work is standing true to one of the guiding principles that we chose - to ensure time spent on Lexulous is amongst the happiest moments of a player's day.

During lockdown what people miss the most is connecting and interacting with others. Even some of us who are introverts seem to have had enough of the lockdown. (Random question: if you force an introvert to be an introvert then do they like being an introvert?)

Anyways, so today we are starting the Lexulous forums. We plan to use the forums for:

    • Announcements of game updates from the Lexulous Team
    • Helping players find new playing partners.
    • Community moderated tips on improving your game.
    • Community hosted tournaments.
    • Other community moderated discussions.
    • We hope you will enjoy this new interaction tool.

In case you would like to volunteer as a moderator or host a discussion topic, please visit this link.

Thank you for supporting & playing Lexulous! We will continue to build a better word game experience for you!

    Regards,
    Rajat & Jayant

  • Rating System
    lexulousL lexulous

The Lexulous Rating indicates the skill level of a player. The rating calculations are based on the excellent Glicko system formulated by Professor Glickman. You can read in detail here.

    TLDR;

    • All players start with a rating of 1500 which changes at the end of each game.

    • If you defeat higher rated players, your rating will increase by a larger margin as compared to defeating players who are rated at your level or lower.

    • Similarly, if you lose to players rated same as yourself or lower the rating loss will be magnified.

  • Host should be able to reject joiners in multi-player games.

We are working on this feature and it will be made available soon.

  • Lexulous 2020: Puzzle Mode
    lexulousL lexulous

  • Admit the new version is a mistake and ditch it.
    lexulousL lexulous

    Hello everyone!

We understand that the new changes have a lot of bugs. We are constantly working on fixing them and ironing out the various issues which are standard when any new version of a website or app is launched.

We HAD to make these changes because Flash is no longer supported by Adobe and will soon be barred from loading by all browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, etc.

    Please note that:

    • Your comments are being heard. We will take note of problems you face and we WILL FIX THEM! Keep posting about the problems you face and provide as much information as you can, for example, by attaching screenshots. This will help us replicate the issues and fix them quicker.

    • Lexulous was and will be, ALWAYS FREE. Do not believe in rumours that we will close down or start asking players for money. NO PAYMENTS REQUIRED FOR LIFE. That's our committment!

Enjoy your games and rest assured that we will not disappoint you.

    Kind regards,
    The Lexulous Team

However, at times your mailbox may still mark the mail as SPAM. In such cases we recommend:

    • Move the email from the spam folder to the inbox. You may have to do this a few times till the mailbox "learns" that these emails are useful to you.

  • Rules of Lexulous
    lexulousL lexulous

    Object of the Game

Players must use letter tiles to make words with on the board. The player with the highest score once all 89 tiles are exhausted, wins the game! All words are permitted with the exception of the following: words that are always capitalised, prefixes and suffixes alone, abbreviations, and words requiring an apostrophe / hyphen.

    Game Play

    • The player who goes first is randomly chosen. They must use at least 2 or more tiles from their rack to form a word on the board. Any one tile must fall on the centre square. Diagonal words are not allowed.

    • Once you've played a word, your rack will be replenished with new tiles, up to a maximum of 8 tiles, and turn passes to your opponent. Remember, the entire pool consists of 89 tiles.

    • Players may form new words on the board in the following ways:

    - Placing a complete word parallel to a word already played so that adjacent letters also form complete words.

    - Adding one or more letters to a word or letters already on the board.

    - Placing a word at right angles to a word already on the board. The new word must use one of the letters already on the board or must add a letter to it.

    - Blanks: The two blank tiles may be used as any letters. When playing a blank, you must choose which letter it represents. It remains that letter for the rest of the game.

    • You may use a turn to exchange all, some, or none of the letters. To do this, click on the SWAP button. This ends your turn.

    Game End

    • The game ends when all letters have been drawn and one player uses his or her last letter.
    • When no tiles are left to be drawn and all players pass their turn consecutively.
    • When tiles are left to be drawn and all players pass three times consecutively.

    Scoring

    • Lexulous keeps score automatically. The score value of each letter is indicated by a number at the bottom of the tile. The score value of a blank is zero. Before you submit a word, you can see the total score for it.

    • The score for each turn is the sum of the letter values in each word formed or modified on that turn, in addition to points obtained from placing letters on Special squares (as described below).

    • Special letter squares: A light blue square doubles the score of a letter placed on it; a dark blue square triples the letter score.

    • Special word squares: The score for an entire word is doubled when one of its letters is placed on a pink square, and tripled, when one of its letters is placed on a red square. Include premiums for double or triple letter values, if any, before doubling or tripling the word score. If a word is formed that covers two premium word squares, the score is doubled and then re-doubled, or tripled and then re-tripled. The centre square doubles the score for the first word.

    • Letter and word premiums count only on the turn in which they are played.

    • When a blank tile is played on a pink or red square, the value of the word is doubled or tripled, even though the blank itself has no score value.

    • When two or more words are formed in the same play, each is scored. The common letter is counted (with full premium value, if any) for each word.

    • BINGO! If you play seven tiles on a turn, it's a Bingo. You score a premium of 40 points over and above the normal word score total. If you use all your 8 tiles, you get a 50 point bonus!

    • Unplayed Letters: When the game ends, each player's score is reduced by the sum of their unplayed letters. In addition, if a player has used all of their letters, the sum of the other players' unplayed letters is added to that player's score.

    • The player with the highest final score wins the game. In case of a tie, the player with the highest score before adding or deducting unplayed letters wins.

    Watch & Learn

The best way to quickly get the hang of scoring is to watch a live game in progress! Simply click on Play Live and you'll see many games in play.
